So little to say, so much time.

Time to get out and enjoy the warm weather. Off to Weston trails for a hike I think.

So far this is going remarkably well, though I would anticipate hard work ahead. At this point I am doing great just buy not eating like a 15 year old whose parents are away (pizza, potato chips and Coke, yum). The switch to salads with great mounds of veggies and crock pot veggie stews and curries for dinner has been easy, I can eat plenty to fill me up when it is 90% carrots, celery, and broccoli.

I went to check out Work Out World (big McGym, close by) yesterday. They have shit-tons of machines, but the vibe was pretty impersonal and chain store. It is mostly one big square room filled with equipment; set in a business park building it felt like a Wal-Mart version of fitness. I think the YMCA a few minutes further away may be the better fit for me.

Day three, still on track (well mostly)

Yes you can buy a "Don't feed Phil" thong on the interweb. Thank The Flying Spaghetti Monster for e-commerce!

Ok, I confess. I went out to lunch with the students and had fries with my chicken sandwich. The upside here is that I had fruit for breakfast, only water with lunch and passed on all the donuts and candy that are always floating around class. The plan is to be sane about this anyhow, and lunch out with the students is a nice routine on Saturdays. So, back on the game with chicken and a whole mess of veggies for dinner.

Exercise was a fast 45 minute ride down the Charles on the single speed to be followed with some time on the bike-that-goes-nowhere in front of the TV tonight.

A good day Two

Now that I have told everyone about this blog I guess I have to stay on top of updating. So...

My title for this is borrowed from Bam Margera's Viva La Bam Tv series which aired on MTV for a while. Bam was one of the Jackass stars and a pro skateboarder (but all of you culturally literate types knew all that). Bam decided his 450 pound father needed to lose weight and imposed a 24 hour fast on him through signs, fliers and Jackass friends standing guard and slapping food out of his hands while chanting "don't feed Phil."

The idea is not for me to not be fed, but the premise is similar by putting this out there for all to follow, all of you can slap that slice of pizza out of my hand.

As a start today has been good. I ate my rabbit food at Russo's salad bar (a long time local produce wholesaler that has added retail and prepared foods, think Ithaca Bakery with a huge veggie selection). This is actually the easy part I love a good salad, I just hate to spend the time during the day doing all the prep. Russo's also sold me the fixings for a chicken curry with tons of veggies that is cooking away in the crock pot right now.

Exercise was a long hike in the woods in Weston. It was getting dark and I was tired as I was headed out of the woods. I heard an owl and followed the call and got a really nice look at a great horned owl in a stand of pine trees. They are very cool birds to see and pretty impressive to watch flying. He flew across the clearing and hung out in another tree keeping an eye on me for a few minutes before I left him alone and headed home.

6 months later and... oops no progress.

OK, I went to the doctor's office for a sore neck yesterday, longish story short: I had to wait 45 minutes, the nurse practitioner I saw was a jerk and I have been having too much caffeine these days and I ended up with a blood pressure of 160/110. She wanted to put me on a BP med on the spot. So time to get my ass in gear, lose weight, get fit and be healthier.

As the first post says, my thinking was that I'd do this in a public venue and I would feel that I have to follow through and make it happen.

OK, time to hop on my way cool single speed and ride over to hit the Whole Foods salad bar for lunch.

Stay tuned.
